Building Energy

Calculation of energy use for space heating and cooling based on ISO, DIN and STR standards.

Building Energy extension for Revit includes calculation of:

  • Heat transfer by transmission and ventilation of a residential or a non-residential buildings
  • Contribution of internal and solar heat gains to the building heat balance
    Heating loads
  • Annual and monthly energy needs for heating and cooling, to maintain the specified set-point temperatures in the building

Building can have several zones with different set-point temperatures and can have intermittent heating and cooling. Extension is suitable for calculating energy needs for heating of building zones which have only heating, as well as the energy needs for heating and cooling of building zones which are served by both heating and cooling systems.

To calculate energy needs for heating and cooling, all heat sources and sinks incl. heat flows through thermal bridges and ground within the building zone are determined and included in the balance calculations. This extension is applicable to buildings at the design stage and to existing buildings

The main output of the Building Energy extension for Revit is:

  • Maximum heating and cooling power in the building spaces and zone
  • Annual and monthly energy needs for building (zones) heating and cooling
  • Length of heating and cooling season affecting the energy use and auxiliary
  • Energy of season-length-dependent technical building systems for heating, cooling and ventilation
  • Annual and monthly values of main elements in the energy balance, e.g. transmission, ventilation, internal heat gains, solar heat
  • System losses (from heating, cooling, hot water, ventilation and lighting systems) recovered in the building
